Prescription use: Flibanserin is prescribed for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women younger than 65 when the low desire causes significant distress and is not explained by another condition, medication, substance, or relationship problem. It is not intended for men or to enhance sexual performance.

Typical prescribed dosage: The prescribed dose is 100 mg once daily at bedtime. It must be taken every day rather than only before sexual activity. Treatment should be discontinued after eight weeks when symptoms have not improved.

Important warning: Flibanserin can cause dizziness, sedation, low blood pressure, and fainting. Alcohol close to the dose increases these risks. It is contraindicated in patients with liver impairment and with moderate or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors.
